About Granite
Natural igneous stone of interlocking mineral crystals.
A pale, warm grey-beige ground scattered with small black specks and the occasional translucent grey grain. Light in tone, with detail up close.
Granite forms deep underground as molten rock cools slowly, locking quartz, feldspar and mica into a dense, crystalline mass. Its pattern is a record of that process: speckled, mottled, sometimes set with larger crystals, and never quite the same from one block to the next. Granite is porous. Seal it on installation and reseal as advised.
Strengths
- Hard; resists everyday wear.
- Porous: seal on installation and reseal as advised.
Considerations
- Takes brief contact with hot items; sudden temperature change can crack it. Use trivets.
- StoneCo lists it for outdoor cooking areas; choose the stone, finish and fixing with us.
- Heavy; plan supports and handling.
Planning your project
Review confirmed specifications and uses, and what to ask us about.
Layout, joints and supports
Joints, supports, edge build-up and cut-outs depend on the agreed layout. Send a rough sketch. Final drawings, measurements, openings and material approval are needed before cutting.
What affects your quote?
Quantity and layout, selected specification, edges and cut-outs, fabrication, delivery and installation scope all affect the quotation.
What happens after you enquire?
The office reviews your request and confirms specification and scope before quoting. Final measurements, drawings and material approval precede cutting.
Samples and visits
A photograph introduces the look; a sample helps you judge colour and finish in your own light. A sample does not show the complete slab pattern. Contact us to confirm current arrangements before you travel.

Questions about Granite
How much does this material vary?
High. Choose the slab where you can.
How should I judge a sample?
A photograph introduces the look; a sample helps you judge colour and finish in your own light. A sample shows colour, finish and texture, but not the full pattern of a slab. For natural stone, discuss how the selected pieces and their vein direction will be reviewed before fabrication.
How do I care for the surface?
Seal on installation and let the sealer cure before use. Reseal every six months in the first year, then once a year, depending on use. To test, drip a little water on the surface: if it soaks in after a few minutes, it is time to reseal. Clean with a stone cleaner. Avoid vinegar, lemon, ammonia, bleach and glass cleaners, which break down the sealer.
Can I use it outdoors?
StoneCo lists it for outdoor cooking areas; choose the stone, finish and fixing with us.
How do I choose an edge?
An edge is the part of a top you touch most. The profile you can have depends on the material, the thickness and how the piece is supported, so choose it with a sample of the edge in hand.
